Press Release No. 05/2013
Date: 10 June 2013
Malta Airport is once again sponsoring the Sports Photography category in the 2013 Malta Journalism Awards.
The Company’s Head PR & Corporate Communications, Reuben Sciberras, presented the sponsorship to Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) Chairman Malcolm J. Naudi and saluted the contribution of sports photography to the local media.
“Maltese sports photographers are certainly on a par with their international peers and in some instances produce work of a superior quality. The variety of sports covered is also impressive. We have been sponsoring the Malta Journalism Awards since their inception, and we are proud to be associated with an initiative which promotes the enhancement of the media profession in Malta,” Mr Sciberras said.
“Sports is practised all the year round, so you will find sports photographers out on the field no matter what the conditions – driving rain, cold or steaming heat,” Mr Naudi said. “This is all part of the pursuit to obtain the ideal image that captures the moment.”
The IĠM has received 56 submissions for the 23rd edition of the MJA. Apart from the three main categories, Print Journalism, Broadcast Journalism and eJournalism, the Opinion Articles category falls into the General category, along with Travel Journalism, Cultural Journalism, Sports Journalism – Print, Sports Journalism – Broadcasting, Sports Photography, Environment Journalism and the Maltese Language in Journalism Award.
The Presentation of the Awards ceremony is being held on Saturday at The Palace Hotel, Sliema. During the evening, the Gold Award, sponsored by the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism (FTFEĠ), for outstanding contribution to the journalism profession that goes beyond the normal call of duty, will also be awarded.
