Press Release No. 17/2010
Date: 1 December 2010
The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM), the sole Maltese affiliate of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), salutes IFJ Secretary-General Aidan White’s departure from the IFJ Secretary-General after an uninterrupted 23-year-old stint in the post.
“White was instrumental in supporting the IGM’s application for IFJ and EFJ application in November 2003, and has been keen in supporting the journalistic community in Malta over the past few years with his indefatigable zeal and passion,” said Charlot Zahra, IGM Deputy Secretary-General.
“He will be sorely missed by the entire journalistic trade union movement who saw White as worked day after day in the defence both of journalistic rights as well as better working conditions for journalists all over the world,” Zahra concluded.
An IFJ statement issued yesterday explained that White, who had been with the Federation since 1987, would leave on 31 March 2011. The Executive Committee of the IFJ, meeting in Brussels from 27-28 November 2010, finalised “a mutual separation agreement with White”.
They also agreed the process for his succession and the appointment of a new General Secretary in the early part of next year.
